Description

Part of my A2 level project in 2007-8 with title "Power". My idea was to research the biblical myth of Behemoth, Leviathan and Ziz, the primordial lords of earth, sea and air respectively. There being a lot of debate about precisely what creatures they were, I went for "real" ones. (Hey, I would've gone for mythological and had a fething sea serpent for Leviathan but noo, my course was strictly observational.) I picked a South Devon bull belonging to our neighbour for Behemoth, a Harris hawk from a falconry show that came to our village for Ziz, and er, well we didn't have any orcas handy, so they came off the internet for Leviathan. :XD: But yeah, please don't debate what creatures I have used; B, L and Z are all mythological anyway, and I did my research and coupled it with a bit of artistic license.
So. These are photos of my artwork, so not as high-quality as a scan would have been, but they've been cleaned up as best I could, which is not very well in the case of the chalk stuff. I got 100% marks for this, pushing my previous B at AS up to an A for the whole A level.

So I tried my hand with chalks, working with the same image I used in Star Boy, and discovered a bit of a knack for them. I got better later, but this was my first, and I was pretty proud of it at the time. I'm afraid the black paper didn't photograph well, so you're left with a kind of icky splodging, but I pretty much didn't do anything smaller than A3, so none of it scans.

Chalks (pretty much like blackboard chalks, blending by hand) on black paper: brown, red, pink, orange, yellow, white, black.

He certainly fits the part! :D That's a really handsome bull. It's really too bad that cattle don't get as much appreciation on this site as animals like horses do.
